Spain has more accredited Spanish schools than anywhere else, which is both the opportunity and the problem: the range between the best and the merely adequate is enormous. Madrid gives you the neutral accent and the busiest social calendar; Andalusia gives you warmth and a harder accent to crack.

Madrid

Clear, neutral Castilian and the best evening life for practising it. Best value if you avoid the very centre.

Barcelona

Bilingual city — you will hear Catalan daily. Beautiful, expensive, and easy to slip into English if you are not careful.

Valencia

The value pick. Beach, a walkable centre and rents well below Madrid or Barcelona.

Seville

Andalusian accent, dropped consonants, unbeatable atmosphere. Brutal in July and August.

Málaga

Year-round sun and a strong cluster of schools. Popular with older learners and remote workers.

What a Week Costs

Group tuition runs roughly €160–260 a week, dropping sharply from four weeks. A room in a shared flat is €400–650 a month, a host family with half board €750–950, a student residence €800–1,100. Climate and Best Time to Visit

Hot, dry summers inland and mild winters everywhere south of Madrid. September to November and March to June are the sweet spots — schools are quieter, classes smaller and the south is still warm enough for the terrace.

Accommodation

Host family with half board is the fastest route to fluency. A shared flat with Spanish flatmates gives you the most freedom. Student residences solve the loneliness problem in three days. Studio apartments suit remote workers who need a real desk.

Activities and Student Life

Spanish social life happens outside, late, and in public. Schools run intercambios, tapas nights and weekend trips; the good ones mix nationalities in class so English is not the default. Flamenco, cooking classes, football, hiking, wine tasting and day trips are all easy to add.

Visas and Paperwork

EU, EEA and Swiss nationals need nothing. UK, US, Canadian and Australian passport holders can stay 90 days in any 180 visa-free; beyond that you need a student visa applied for from your home country, and the school must issue an enrolment letter for a course of at least 20 hours a week.
